Where the Sun Shines

Since 2003 I have worked with Canada World Youth and Change for Children in many places throughout Africa and Latin America. This website has served as a medium to share my experiences, to tell my stories from "the field". This year (2010) I will be returning to Mozambique to work as a project supervisor again with Canada World Youth.

One Good Summer

So summer has now come and gone, but I need to mention here on the blog how amazing and fantastic it truly was. By far it was the best summer I have had since 1996 when I was leaving for my one year Rotary Exchange to Brazil! It has been an incredible summer. I stayed near the River Valley for a few weeks house-sitting in the great neighbourhood of Riverdale, where I got to see a good friend Zane a little more than usual. I also made several trip to nearby lakes and rivers! I think I made it out to Pembina River with Janina about three times this summer- we where enjoyed tubing down the river and sun tanning on the beach.

I also had the pleasure of facilitating three Canada World Youth camps and thoroughly enjoyed all the fun and amazingly high energy that is always present during the first few days of any Canada World Youth programme!

Moreover, I have had the joy of having both my sister Ali and Bolivian brother Jaime both back here in Canada for the summer. Together with these two, along with another amazing friend Jenelle, I made a week trip to Vancouver and back. On our way back with picked up another good friend and former co-worker – Michelle and all along the trip we visited Canada World Youth connections.

Another major highlight has been being able to volunteer for Folk Festival in Edmonton this summer, our volunteer job was to face paint rainbows, flowers and spidermen on little children’s faces and in return we were able to attend the whole festival including its infamous after parties!

Apart from all that I can not forget to mention my regular salsa dancing crew. Nearly all summer and much of the past several months I have been a very faithful regular at On the Rocks on Thursday nights and most Wednesday nights I could be found dancing away at the Funky Budha! All the dancing friends made on those dance floors n all the good times will not be forgotten! Muchas Gracias!

To sum up, it has been an amazing summer hanging out with friends and family. The past several months here in Edmonton have been great, and I have thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with Edmonton and all the many great people that call this city home. Thank you Edmonton! You are already missed!
