Where the Sun Shines

Since 2003 I have worked with Canada World Youth and Change for Children in many places throughout Africa and Latin America. This website has served as a medium to share my experiences, to tell my stories from "the field". This year (2010) I will be returning to Mozambique to work as a project supervisor again with Canada World Youth.

Ups and Downs

So its been one hectic month. The challenges and difficulties associated with my position have been numerous. I must state however I am quite impressed with how I have handled the stress and heavy work load; I have some how managed to stay quite calm and relaxed despite all the craziness that has taken place here on the program here in Revelstoke.

Mid-Project Camp (half way through the Canadian phase we organized a retreat for the participants to reflect on their learning to date) was very nice. We went to the beautiful town of Naksup, where we stayed in a gorgeous hostel just outside of town. We enjoyed an amazing international menu prepared by the participants and all had a very nice relaxing time away from the community for a few days.

The week after Aggie and I joined all the other project supervisors working in Western Canada for field staff mid-project. It was held in Edmononton so I luckily got another chance to meet with family and friends from "home". It was a really nice time, mom prepared a thanksgiving dinner for me( since I wasnt home for the real one) and I very much enjoyed all the time I got to spend with some of my favorite people!

Since Edmonton we have been kept busy working long hours, problem solving, resolving conflict, planning and organzing up-coming events/activities and whatever else falls upon our plate. Although it has been challenging and I feel I have dont have much of social life, the job has been very rewarding- lately our educational activity days have been filled with interesting dialogue and discussion and our regular singing and dancing always lightens my spirits and provides me with new positive engergy!
