Where the Sun Shines

Since 2003 I have worked with Canada World Youth and Change for Children in many places throughout Africa and Latin America. This website has served as a medium to share my experiences, to tell my stories from "the field". This year (2010) I will be returning to Mozambique to work as a project supervisor again with Canada World Youth.

I love La Paz!

Saying goodbye to La Paz, as the program ended and I had to pack up my room, was very hard to do. Lately I have been thinking about it and I think I truly do, love La Paz! I have really enjoyed my time here in La Paz, and just recently I feel like I have finally developed a good network of friends and know my way around and can always think of something to do, a new place to check out, etc.

The last month of the program was a bit of an adventure. We had to deselect 4 Canadian participants because they left the host community, La Paz, without permission, without their counterparts nor host families and did the infamous road of death on bike, a decent of approximately 2500 meters. Apart from that major bump in the road, and its aftermath, things were going fairly smoothly and I was feeling pretty satisified with how the program was going. On a personal level over the last month I made some good friends, with both local Bolivians and foreigners alike. We had a lot of fun together, going out dancing, going for dinners, lunches, and in general just hanging out. I also kept up my aerobics classes, did some salsa and samba dance classes.

After the program ended I decided to stay a few extra days in my room at the wonderful Bed and Breakfast, Jaime and I were staying at for this phase of the program. It was a little strange at first for it to be so quiet after the program was over, as my phone would barely ring and to not have my beloved counterpart, Jaime around. Definetly itwas a bit of an adjustment and a little sad. But nonetheless the time passed by very quickly and before you knew it I was packing up my room and preparing for my trip to Coroico, where I´d spend Xmas along with my sister and her boyfriend.

So long La Paz. I will miss you.
