Where the Sun Shines

Since 2003 I have worked with Canada World Youth and Change for Children in many places throughout Africa and Latin America. This website has served as a medium to share my experiences, to tell my stories from "the field". This year (2010) I will be returning to Mozambique to work as a project supervisor again with Canada World Youth.

From Eritrea to Russia

So after a few flights, and train rides later, I have now found myself in Russia with Vadim. So far it's been an extreme culture shock, going from friendly happy-go-lucky Eritrean culture, to not so friendly, cold, and dark Russia! The weather is the biggest difference; even though its spring here, I am always feeling cold, and have had to buy extra clothing, warm pants, sweaters and an extra jacket! I am taking it easy writing some final reports for the internship, for NUEW, CFCA and CIDA(the branch of the Canadian govt that sponsors overseas development internships like mine). I might also write some articles for different newsletters back home. In the meantime I am enjoying the great variety of fun foods here in Russia. The supermarkets in Eritrea, were always so tiny and didnt have much variety but here in Russia there are a so many different things and its fun to eat different foods that which I havent ate in a very long time.

I also intend to write a couple interesting blog entries this week, revealing the Socialist Eritrea not talked about in earlier blog entries, due mostly to my own paranoia, but also due to constant rumours of how I could have my website read by the Ministry of Information and risk becoming deported from Eritrea.

Stay tunned, as the blog dosent stop just cause I've left Eritrea....
